Gamblers and gambling companies frequently have a tendency to misuse different platforms in order to gain more money or trick other parties. When it comes to this type of abuse, countries like China are very stern and more importantly, they are planning to become even stricter.
China Getting More Careful With Penalties:
As we mentioned previously, China is one of those tough countries that will not allow any form of misapplication concerning gambling.

These days, WeChat, a social media platform is making the headlines due to committing cybercrime. Furthermore, on Christmas Day, Zhou Jiahai, deputy director of the research office of China’s Supreme People’s Court issued a directive spelling out five guiding cases for gravely penalizing cybercrime!
He said that it was, “unshirkable statutory duty of the judiciary to severely punish cybercrime in accordance with the law and effectively maintain cybersecurity.”
Gaining Profit:
The main purpose of these malversations was to trick people into giving these individuals money. How were they doing it? They were deliberately inviting users to join this platform in order to attract potential gamblers.
Besides this case, there was another one where red envelope money transfer service from WeChat was used to alleviate gambling on the social network.
Harsh Punishments:
Zhou stated that people who sought to profit like this will face penalties along with the ones who operate illegal casinos under Article 303 of the Criminal Law.
Potentially, they can receive both strict financial punishments as well as up to ten years in prison!
They want to take these things seriously, because if they don’t stop them now, they could possibly make a huge negative impact on Chinese society. That’s precisely why the government is forcing members of the judiciary to be persistent when it comes to this thing and to keep on“educating and guiding the public to abide by the law and discipline.”
Now, it’s no secret that WeChat has allowed people from China to utilize any form of online gambling through their platform, even though it is widely-known that something like this is already forbidden in this country.
The government has tried multiple times to put an end to this, especially during the Lunar New Year celebrations when these activities are increased, but it seems like it will take much more to finally halt it.
