France Reports Major Growth in Q4 2018

It’s no secret that in the last couple of years the gambling industry has set some major records when it comes to annual revenue. Many countries have seen its potential and, therefore, accepted it as one of the biggest sources of income.

Among these countries is France, too. Namely, their online gambling sector has sustained a huge growth trajectory, especially during the fourth quarter of last year.

What Do Reports Say?

According to research from the French Regulatory Authority for Online Gaming (ARJEL), betting corporations from this country set a betting turnover of a staggering €3.9 billion which represents approximately a 56% rise that year.

Furthermore, this is actually the highest betting profit recorded in France since online betting was approved, which was exactly nine years ago.

More Interesting Results:

Sporting events were obviously extremely popular last year. Namely, during the last quarter the amount of money invested in sporting events was €1.06 billion which also indicated a significant change when it comes to this industry.

The overall income gained for the quarter was €215 million, meaning it is a jump of 32%! The number of gamblers was also increased by 39%.

The most popular sport for sure is volleyball. It has shown the largest profit gain of all sports. It earned €18.8 million in bet values, making a huge growth of over 100% from Q4 of 2017.

Football Beats The Competition:

As expected, when it comes to betting, the most famous game was precisely football. It generated a turnover of €663 million!

This result showcases that there was an increase of 54%. The second most popular game was Basketball with a superb €162.7 million in bets value.

Right after it, avid pothunters were playing tennis which made a turnover of €111.4 million, meaning making a 70% enhancement.

As far as other activities are concerned, horse racing and online poker weren’t as successful as the ones we mentioned previously.

For instance, the profit made from poker decreased by 1% to €65 million and it looks like tournaments brought more money in comparison to cash games. On a more positive note, the number of active players per each week was escalated by 2% to 256,000.

Now, when it comes to horse racing, the value of bets that were raised by casino in Q4 rose by 2% to €275 million, while, on the other hand, the increase in earnings was 1% to €67 million, which doesn’t showcase any drastic improvement.
